Altar Society

The mission of the SLKF Altar Society is to present a beautiful altar, tabernacle, and home to honor our Lord Jesus Christ that is worthy of His Divine Presence. Everything is done on a volunteer basis. Belonging to the Altar Society will be most gratifying - you will be offering your devotion to the Lord, making new friends, and will have a feeling of accomplishment. The prayerful, loving, weekly cleaning and adorning of the altars is a privilege for 10 teams of 5 to 6 members, working for 1 hour about every 10 weeks (usually after 8:30 a.m. Mass on Saturday mornings). It is a joy decorating for the glorious Easter and Christmas Masses. The members create lovely altar linens and some vestments. They also tend to linens, holy water fonts, windows, confessionals, sacristy, etc. Gorgeous flowers are the crowning glory of the SLKF Church. These flowers are purchased using funds obtained through the Altar Society Dues of $5.00 per year. Additional funds are raised through our annual Bake Sale (we ask for a donation of cake or other desserts) and donations honoring special persons/events in our parishioners' hearts throughout the year, especially for Easter and Christmas decorations. On the first Sunday of each month, the Altar Society meets at 7:30 a.m. Mass. Every other month, from September through May, Mass is followed by a serving of coffee and doughnuts and a short meeting (usually over at 9:00 a.m.). Also, a Lenten Morning of Recollection is held. The Altar Society is open to ALL ages - please join and show your love of Our Lord by serving Him in this fulfilling ministry. The duties are small, and the rewards can be great! There is also a Jr. Auxiliary SLKF School Team.

Alumni Association

The SLKF Alumni Association currently has over 2200 members dating back to the Class of 1959.  Our purpose has been to develop a vibrant interest in St. Louis King of France School, to gain a thorough understanding of the needs of the school, and to maintain participation in different activities hosted by the school.  That goal has been accomplished through reunions and the development of our newsletter, The SLKF Herald.  Our goal for the next 10 years is to build and sustain involvement of our alumni in the school, and by doing so strengthen and enhance the bonds of leadership and community that are shared through the teachings of our patron, St. Louis King of France.

The SLKF Alumni Association continues to search for former students.  If you are a past graduate, relative, or friend of a past graduate of St. Louis King of France School and are not a current member of our organization, please contact us at 833-8224.  We would be happy to send you a copy of our most recent newsletter and encourage you to join our membership.  Joining will connect you with your alma mater and your former classmates.

Busy Bees

The Busy Bees is a club formed for the senior citizens of our parish. Meetings are held on the third Saturday of each month at 1:00 p.m. in the Lorio Center. Members are encouraged to get involved in Church activities by joining the Altar Society, Choir, and other Ministries. They are also encouraged to attend other Church services. The Busy Bees try to get senior citizens to participate in school activities by volunteering to work in the cafeteria, library, or other areas, and at our yearly festival. The club also keeps in touch with sick members and sends them get well cards. Scheduled catered lunches (with entertainment) and dinners are held in the Lorio Center and at off-site locations.

C.C.D. Religious Program

C.C.D. is our Religious Program for all children not attending Catholic School. Our classes are from kindergarten to eight grades. It is very important to continue your child's religious education after Baptism, as this enables them to receive the other sacraments of Eucharist, Reconciliation, and Confirmation. We are all aware of how important it is for our children to know God and to have Him in their lives. C.C.D. gives them guidelines and a moral perspective to live by. It also teaches them that they are children of a loving God who is always with them.

C.Y.O.

Choir

The Choir at SLKF Church is a ministry that sings praises to the Lord at the celebration of the Eucharist, and on special occasions celebrated in Church. The Choir sings at the Saturday 4:00 p.m. Vigil Mass, and on Sunday at the 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Masses. Anyone wishing to sing is welcome to become a Choir member at any of these Masses. One needs not to have a trained voice, just a desire to give to the Lord the talent that He has given them. Our mission is to have more Choir members at each of the Masses to help the congregation sing praises to the Lord.

Eucharistic Ministers & Lectors

There are Basic Workshops for Special Ministers of the Eucharist. Attendance at this workshop is required before a person can be delegated by the Archbishop to serve as a Communion Minister. For info call 834-9977.

The workshop for Lectors is also two sessions, one focusing on the theology of the word, and the second dealing with the techniques and skills of proclaiming the Word of God.

Liturgical ministry workshops for altar servers, ushers/hospitality ministers, music ministers, and liturgy committees may be scheduled with the Office of Worship on an as needed basis. The address for the Office of Worship is 7887 Walmsley, New Orleans, LA 70125; fax # 866-2906.

Marketing Committee

The SLKF Marketing Committee is a relatively new organization in the parish family. Being founded only three years ago, we have accomplished much in the area of promoting our school to our local community, the Jefferson Parish community, and the metropolitan area at large. Its mission is to educate these target areas and promote a strong awareness as to the excellence in education available to our students both academically and spiritually. The dedicated men and women of this organization seek to accomplish this not only by traditional means of media promotions, but also by encouraging our parents and teachers to participate by spreading the good news of our school's many academic accomplishments. This committee has created and produced the school's first brochure. It also encourages the promotion of our school through the organization and coordination of the "Open House" night. Open House is one of the most important ways that we promote ourselves to the community. The Marketing Committee sends cards to the newly baptized babies and birthday and Christmas cards to children baptized here through the age of five. It also established the Beautification Committee, the on-site volunteer to do weekly public relations, the Family of the Month Mass, and the Technology Committee here at SLKF. School improvements such as the totally new computer lab and the library are accomplishments for which the Marketing Committee can take credit. The committee meets monthly and welcomes anyone interested in joining our efforts to attend.

Men's Club

The SLKF Men's Club meets on the third Wednesday of each month. Dinner and spirits are provided at the meetings. The purpose of this club is to provide service to the school and the parish. Dues are $15.00 per year.

Ushers' Society

The Ministry of Ushers at SLKF has a long-standing record of service to the parish. Men, women, and older teens come together to assist the community in the celebration of our Christian Liturgy. Often the first person a parishioner sees upon entering the church is the usher. In his role as greeter, the usher, in welcoming parishioners as they arrive, provides to those parishioners the sense that "it is good to be here." Among the servants of God who comprise the membership of the body of Christ, ushers are called to provided a very special service in their exercise of a true liturgical ministry. They are ministers of the church and servants of the faith-community in the highest moment of its self-realization when it gathers to celebrate the Eucharist. Every Mass is an action of Christ in the presence of God and His people assembled. This means that all participants, and particular those exercising special ministries, must be keenly aware of the sanctity of the celebration. Because of the nature of their service, ushers especially should bring to their ministry a strong sense of community. They are church builders; they shoulder a large measure of the responsibility for helping the local church realize its identity and thereby become and express its best self through the worship deed that engages it. A prerequisite for those aspiring to quality service in the role of usher is a commitment to Christ living in His Church, together with a deep sense of being instruments of the community appointed to assist its growth in the Spirit of Jesus. The Church is people gathered in Christ; every usher, therefore, ought to be a "people person." The basic duties of the usher are simple. They welcome people to church, see that they are seated and comfortable, assist the handicap, direct the congregation in participation of the Mass, assist in taking up the collection, and guide the flow at communion. At the end of Mass, the ushers will distribute the church bulletins, see that the doors are closed after the parishioners have left, and then prepare the church for the next Mass. The SLKF Ushers' Society meets on the fourth Tuesday of every odd numbered month at 7:30 p.m. in the meeting room. Please consider sharing your time and talents with us.

Parents' Club

The SLKF Parents' Club welcomes all parents, grandparents, and friends of SLKF to join and become involved. Dues are only $20.00 per year. The club raises money for the school and encourages the members to volunteer for different activities within the school. Activities sponsored by the Parents' Club include:  individual class parties and functions, pizza night with Domino's, King Cake parties, Honor Roll rewards, Bunny BINGO, Christmas luncheon at Andrea's Restaurant, New Orleans Hamburger & Seafood night and an annual Spring Dance.  The five meetings that are held each year help parents receive information on what's happening in our school. Refreshments are served at the meetings. There are also door prizes and a 50/50 drawing at each meeting. The goal of the Parents' Club is to encourage parental involvement. The Parents' Club is the organization that completes the unity of church, school, and family.
